of the One
Way Sanctified Holiness Church
Discussions for starting
a new church began on Saturday, March 13, 2004. In attendance were Elder
Michael R. Minnix, Sis. Tammy Beasley, Sis. Verdie Brown, Sis. Felicia Carter
and Sis. Batina N. Christmas. The following day, Sunday, March 14, 2004, we
gathered together at the home of Elder Michael R. Minnix, and in attendance
were: Elder Michael R. Minnix, Sis. Tammy Beasley, Sis. Verdie Brown, Sis.
Felicia Carter, Sis. Batina N. Christmas, Bro. Alton Robertson, Jr., and Sis.
Tatiana Thompson. Even though we were not in a church building, we didn’t just
gather together, but we had church!
Services were held at the home of Elder Minnix for two weeks, on March 28,
2004, the Lord blessed us to rent the conference room at the Imperial County
Farm Bureau located at 1000 Broadway in the city of El Centro. While at the
Farm Bureau, it was determined that we needed more than just a Sunday service to
get us through the week, so we started having a mid-week Bible Study in the
homes. We gathered in homes throughout El Centro, Imperial and Calipatria.
During this time Elder Minnix was asking God for direction concerning a name
for the church. While in prayer and consecration, God gave his approval on “One
Way Sanctified Holiness Church.”
ONE WAY
-
JOHN 14:6
JESUS SAITH UNTO
HIM, I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE: NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER, BUT
BY ME.
SANCTIFIED
- JOHN 17:19
AND FOR THEIR SAKES, I SANCTIFY MYSELF
THAT THEY ALSO MIGHT BE SANCTIFIED THROUGH THE TRUTH.
HOLINESS - ISAIAH 35:8
AND AN HIGHWAY SHALL BE THERE, AND A
WAY, AND IT SHALL BE CALLED THE WAY OF HOLINESS; THE UNCLEAN SHALL NOT PASS OVER
IT; BUT IT SHALL BE FOR THOSE: THE WAYFARING MEN, THOUGH FOOLS, SHALL NOT ERR
THEREIN.
On Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004, there was a great outpouring of the Holy
Spirit in the service, and Eld. Minnix was compelled to open up the doors of the
church for the first time. Twenty-two came to the altar to place their
membership with One Way Sanctified Holiness Church by right hand of fellowship.
The members also accepted Elder Minnix into the membership as the Pastor and
Under Shepard.
We continued to have services at the Farm Bureau Bldg. until the Lord blessed
us once again and we were able to rent this building located at 1082 Woodward
Avenue in the city of El Centro from the Spanish Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Our weekly services include: Sunday School, Sunday Morning Worship, First
Sunday evening Miracle Night, Tuesday Evening Prayer and Bible Study, Thursday
evening Choir Rehearsal and the 4th Friday of every month the church
meets for Intercessory Prayer/Shut-In service.
The
active ministries are Sunday School, Men’s Department, Women’s Department, Youth
Department, Usher Board, Out Reach Ministry and Sanctuary Choir.
As our Ministry began to grow several members informed the Pastor of their
desire to be baptized. He met with them and taught on baptism, and upon
successful completion of the class, they were found to be acceptable candidates
for water baptism. On Sunday, September 12, 2004, we traveled to Sunbeam Lake
in Seeley and the following candidates were baptized: Bro. Francisco Andrade,
Bro. Ronnie Andrews, Sis. Verdie Brown, and Sis. Kathie Haley.
For the last three years, the Lord has added (13) members to the One Way
Sanctified Holiness Church family by the right hand of fellowship. God also saw
fit to call one of our beloved members Sis. Kathleen Turner, affectionately
called “Mama Turner,” (Bishop’s grandmother) home. She was blessed to live for
103 years here on earth, but she is now living eternally with the Lord.
God has given a vision to our Pastor for this church, and we are all working
together to bring that vision to fruition. Projects completed over the past
year; the purchase of this beautiful Hammond Organ, choir robes and a
15-passenger van.
While I’ve told you about some of the material things that will help us in our
ministry, our first priority is to win souls to Christ. We praise God for all
that He has done, is doing, and is yet going to do, but if we are not winning
the lost to Christ, our work is in vain. We have taken on a theme for our
church, “A Church with a Heart for Reaching Out”. We endeavor to reach out to
those in need while leading them to Christ.
The Lord is truly blessing us here under the leadership of Pastor, Bishop
Michael R. Minnix.
Last year during this time last year our
church traveled to Dallas, Texas April, 2006 for our five-day annual Holy
Convocation, where pastor Minnix was ordained Bishop of Southern California
under the leadership of Chief Apostle Dr. H. L. McGowan Sr. of God’s House of
Deliverance Inc. Fifteen members of our church were honored to travel with our
pastor to Dallas, TX to witness this blessed event.
